The Scout Motto is: BE PREPARED which means you are always in a state of readiness in mind and body to do your DUTY. This is an appropriate motto for two events that have happened this past week.
The first event is the raging wildfires in Colorado. The Waldo Canyon Fire has been called a “firestorm of epic proportions” by the news reporters. Thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes and businesses and thousands of acres are burning. Think about getting the notice that you have to evacuate. What do you take? Where do you go? What will be left standing when you can return to the area? Those are all emergency essentials questions we need to answer before a disaster. They key is to start planning NOW.
The second event was the closing of one of our competitors in the Chicago area. Again there wasn’t much notice. They had about 2,000 employees assigned to their customers’ locations. Those people got paid every two weeks, except there was no money to pay them their last paychecks. Many companies had to quickly search out a new staffing company to work with, so their business could keep moving forward.
How do you prepare for a situation like that? Our team of staffing professionals is constantly contacting businesses in their market area. Maybe it’s time to invite them in for a thorough analysis of your needs and to develop a backup plan. There’s no cost for that, and it’s a wise investment of your time.
