Should I Change Jobs?

You have been wanting to make a job change. You have sent hundreds of resumes to companies and applied for jobs online only to fall in the black hole. Finally, you interview and receive an offer. You are so excited. Now what?

Once you receive an offer, you need to decide what is most important to you. Does the job offer meet your list of expectations or is it a temporary fix? You need to look at more than just the salary. Examine:

  1. Job Description and Duties
  2. Salary, Commission, Bonus and Raises
  3. Potential Earnings/Advancement
  4. Professional Development/Tuition Reimbursement
  5. Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Retirement, Vacation
  6. Working Hours and Flexibility of Schedule
  7. Company Culture (team atmosphere or independent, formal or relaxed)
  8. Other perks such as parking, fitness facility/classes, game room, cafeteria, etc.

Today, the average person changes jobs twelve times during his or her career. Many workers spend five years or less in every job. Would these stats change if we gave more consideration to accepting a job?
