Job Description
Job Title: Medical Secretary Eligibility Specialist
Job Summary
Medical Secretary: Insurance eligibility for office, dialysis, and hospital consults requiring phone contact
with patients. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, obtaining referrals and
authorizations, patient check in and check out, light phone answering.
General Accountabilities
 Verify patient eligibility for office paitents
 Answer phones as needed
 Back up to front office receptionist (check in patients for their appointments and collect
appropriate paperwork and payment)
 Obtaining referrals and VA authorizations for hospital patients
 Enter patient demographics for new dialysis starts and verify insurance
 Assist with miscellaneous billing operations
 Back up position to patient check out to include scheduling follow up appointments

Job Qualifications
 Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent substitute.
 Minimum Experience: 2 years; combined education/experience as substitute for minimum
experience.
 Minimum Skills: Experience with EMR, MS Word, Excel, MS outlook.
 Eligibility verification experience required
 Epic EHR experience preferred
Skills:
 Able to speak/write English clearly and make self understood.
 Good verbal and written communication skills.
 Correct grammar, spelling skills, and legible writing.
 Skills in answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner and using a multi-line phone
system.
 Able to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.

 Demonstrate willingness to adapt to change.
